“Can we include our dog in the wedding ceremony?” is a question I get asked quite often. Yes of course you can! It’s one of the really fabulous things about being a marriage celebrant; you never know what your next couple are going to want for their wedding ceremony! Every couple is so different and so individual and it’s great fun to make sure that their wedding ceremony is as unique as they are. But as much as you love your wonderful, devoted pet, there are things you need to take into consideration to make sure it’s a success and not a disaster! Dogs can be a bit like children – totally cute and absolutely unpredictable – and that can make things tricky. A few tips:

A Bilingual Wedding Ceremony is not as unusual as you might think. And if you are wondering what the guests might be thinking while listening to the language they don’t speak, well it’s only positive! As a marriage celebrant your main concern is that everyone enjoys the ceremony so it’s important that a Bilingual Wedding Ceremony (see this video) is delivered in a way that all the guests can enjoy. There are never long deliveries of any one language so guests actually feel they understand what is being said in the other language. No one feels left-out. SBS Australia recently produced a podcast on Germans marrying in Australia. It is always such a lovely feeling to receive feedback from the beautiful couples whose bilingual wedding ceremonies I have had the privilege to perform.

Being a marriage celebrant is a huge privilege. You share the dreams and sometimes keep the secrets of many beautiful couples. I love meeting my couples for the first time and hearing their story. It’s not just listening, it’s about reading between the lines, watching their body language and Holding Space for them.

In recent times many marrying couples have as their main worry – How to save costs on their weddings.

I totally support this so I want to help with ideas on how to keep down your costs.

There seem to be two key words if you want to save costs with your flowers: Creativity and Flexibility. Your florist needs to be very creative and you need to be flexible. I asked one of the most creative florists in Perth, Ellie Townsend who owns Lime Flowers in East Fremantle for some tips.

What are the criteria for a perfect wedding gift? As a wedding celebrant I am rarely involved in advising on wedding gifts but this week I was put in a position to ask myself this question. I heard a wonderful story from one of my brides-to-be and it inspired me! I am often touched when I hear my couple’s stories, it’s one of the special parts of being a marriage celebrant, but this story touched me to the core.

Wedding Ceremonies are not always just smiles and fun. Tears of joy are sometimes shared with tears of remembrance and sorrow. As a marriage celebrant it is sometimes not easy to walk that fine line of including and honouring deceased loved ones in a wedding ceremony and creating a joyful and fun celebration for the bridal couple.

“Getting to the other side of an event makes me beyond happy. Seeing the joy on people’s faces on the evening but also hearing the reviews makes me glad. I just love pulling together a beautiful table that encourages community”. – I had to cheer when I read this quote from Stacey Clark. She had contacted me re being the wedding celebrant for one of her clients and because I had not had the pleasure of working with her before I did a little research and fell in love with her philosophy.
